Rachel Maudal, MD

Originally from Colorado, Rachel Maudal, MD, found her way to Minnesota during her undergraduate studies at the University of Minnesota-Morris, where she met her husband, a Minnesota native. Their shared dream was to return to Minnesota, a place that offered easy access to the outdoors. After spending some time back in Colorado for medical school, they decided Duluth, MN, was the perfect place to settle with their family. She was particularly drawn to Essentia Health for its strong Elder Care division, allowing her to practice both primary care and post-acute long-term care medicine. 

Dr. Maudal’s passion for internal medicine lies in managing complex medical issues while forming meaningful, long-term relationships with her patients. She has a special interest in geriatrics, focusing on improving the quality of life for older adults. Her expertise includes managing memory disorders, fall prevention, polypharmacy, advanced care planning, and frailty. 

With her husband, Michael, who teaches science at Duluth East High School, their daughter, Sage, and their energetic German Shorthaired Pointer, Willow, Dr. Maudal enjoys an active lifestyle. Her hobbies include hiking, camping, biking, and skiing, embracing both summer and winter activities. She is dedicated to helping older adults optimize their quality of life and age in place, always aiming to align medical care with her patients' personal goals.
