EnglishBio
Alix Heins, DNP, PMHNP-BC, is a psychiatric nurse practitioner based in Duluth, Minnesota. She specializes in psychiatry and is passionate about helping adolescents navigate the challenges of mental health during their formative years. Alix is dedicated to supporting young people as they face issues such as anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation. She believes in creating a safe and supportive environment where patients and their families feel comfortable sharing their experiences.
Alix chose to join Essentia Health because of its transition to practice program, which provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen clinical skills while receiving mentorship and support. She completed her nurse practitioner program at The College of St. Scholastica, which helped her build strong ties to the region.
What drew Alix to psychiatry is the variety it offers—no two days or patients are ever the same. She values the meaningful conversations she has with patients, knowing that even small interactions can make a big difference in their lives. Alix is committed to treating every person with kindness, respect, and empathy.
Outside of work, Alix enjoys reading, golfing, and spending time at the lake. She believes in the importance of balance and finding joy in life’s simple pleasures. Alix is excited to continue her journey with Essentia Health and make a positive impact on the lives of her patients and the community.
