What Can You Do with MyChart?
Think of MyChart as your virtual personal assistant for health care. It allows you to communicate with your care team, access portions of your medical records, plus more.
With MyChart you can:
- Schedule appointments with your primary care provider.
- Connect with your provider through a secure Virtual Video Visit.
- Get care from an urgent care provider without leaving your home by a secure 24/7 Video Visits On Demand.
- Request prescription refills.
- Review notes from your appointments.
- See test results.
- Access immunization records.
- Exchange secure messages with your care team.
- Request and view your medical records.
- Se up a payment plan or pay your bill.
- Apply for financial assistance.
Self-Check In Through MyChart
We all know your time is precious. That's why we are excited to offer you an easy way to check into your clinic appointments. You can now skip the registration desk altogether. Use MyChart on your cell phone to show "I'm here." You can then go right to the waiting room of the department where your appointment will take place.
Instant Activation, Immediate Access
Discover how easy it is to set up a MyChart account. Just answer a few questions to verify your identity and find a matching patient record at Essentia Health. Once your identity has been confirmed, you can create a MyChart account and gain immediate access to your information.
Secure & Confidential
Rest assured, all information in your MyChart account is secure and confidential—only you and those directly involved in your care can access it. When you use your account to communicate with your Essentia care team, you can feel certain that your messages are private and protected.
Manage a Loved One’s Care through Proxy Access
Use MyChart to help manage care for a child or another adult. With your loved one’s permission, you’ll have proxy access to their MyChart record and the ability to communicate on their behalf.
Children under 12 do not need to sign a form to grant proxy access to their parents or legal guardians. Teenagers must sign a form to allow access to certain protected health information.

MyChart Mobile App
Access your health information on the go with our mobile app. Take advantage of the app’s push notifications to get alerts about upcoming appointments, messages from your care team, and more.
To get the app, download MyChart from the iOS App Store (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch) or from Android Apps on Google Play. Open the app on your device and select “Essentia Health” as your health care provider, then login using your MyChart username and password.
Paperless Billing
Within MyChart, you also have the option to choose your billing notifications within your MyChart account. You can turn on billing notifications for the following:
- Balance Updates
- Billing Letters
- Financial Assistance Letters
- Payment Reminders
- And more
Please make sure you have an up-to-date email address connected to your MyChart account. To check, please login into your MyChart account, and under Account Settings, select Personal Information. From this page, you are able to review and/or update your email.

Account Summary
Within the 'Billing' section of your MyChart account, you now have the ability to set up a payment plan or pay your bill.
You can also:
- View your account balance details
- Look at your current and past statements
- See your recent and scheduled payments and your payment history
- View your insurance claim status
- Send a message directly to Patient Financial Services

How does "transitioning to paperless statements" affect me?
Essentia Health patients with active MyChart accounts will receive billing statements electronically in MyChart, instead of getting paper statements in the mail.

Can I still choose to receive paper statements?
- Go to MyChart login page and select the ‘Billing Summary’ tab under the Menu. At the bottom of the page, you can select the link to ‘cancel paperless billing’ in blue and follow the prompts.
- Or by calling 1-800-985-4675, Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

How do I opt in or out of receiving text messages?
To get text messages from Essentia Health text START to 42573. These messages relate to your visits, MyChart account, payments, or care management updates.
You can also visit your ‘Communication Preferences’ in your MyChart account where you can choose which updates to get by text message.

What happens if I don't notice a Statement in MyChart and I miss the due date?
An automated notification with a payment reminder will be sent to your email address on file if payment has not been received within 14 days from the statement date.

Why am I still receiving paper bills?
Essentia Health contracts with outside partners to provide certain services such as radiology, anesthesia, and some emergency room services. You will continue to receive paper statements for these types of contracted services from those companies. You may contact them directly to discuss their paperless billing options.

What if I've already declined paperless billing?
If you have declined paperless billing before this transition, your statement preference in MyChart will not change. You will not be automatically enrolled in paperless billing.

What happens to a MyChart account if someone passes away?
When a patient with MyChart has passed away the account is marked deceased. All access to the MyChart account will end. If a family needs their loved one’s medical record, they can reach out to our Release of Information Department. For more information, visit Medical Records.
