Hope Like Nowhere Else
Essentia Health’s Grief Support Services and Clinical Pastoral Education provide holistic care, community, and counseling to those experiencing hospitalization or a difficult diagnosis or loss. To honor 35 years of these invaluable programs at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, we invite you to join us as we expand our outreach and our mission.
What is Grief Support?
Grief Support Services include individual counseling, support groups, and community education events—often providing the only opportunity for seriously ill patients and their families to work through complex emotions during their hospital stay. Support and resources are also available at any point in your grief journey, both online and in-person.
With your help we hope to:
- Hire more specialized therapists to reach more patients and assist in crisis response
- Provide more craft and memory-making supplies for youth and adult grief groups
- Expand grief support groups and outreach services to better meet the needs of rural communities
- Purchase additional grief literature and memory-making supplies for grieving youth and bereaved parents
What is Clinical Pastoral Education?
Fully accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), our unique program has prepared more than 400 professional chaplains for work in healthcare settings, nursing homes, and parishes. Chaplains and CPE interns provide care for body, mind, and spirit in a manner that honors diversity and serves people of all faiths and backgrounds.
With your help we hope to:
- Launch a new residency program with paid stipends for clinical work
- Fund new scholarships and supplies for incoming students
- Hire a second CPE educator to keep up with the expansion of this program
- Purchase additional books and art supplies
You can be a part of improving holistic care for thousands more patients, families, and individuals across the Northland. Please consider making a donation today to support the future of these programs.
